Hypermiling update

If I needed proof that Americans are changing their fuel-usage habits, this is definitely it.
After being the top-selling vehicle in America for 17 years, the Ford F-Series pickup fell, not to second, but fifth place behind four Japanese sedans.
Meanwhile, I've ridden about 20 miles in the past two days, mostly in city traffic and have realized I probably spend more time idling at stop lights then actually driving. My six-mile commute to work yesterday took almost 30 minutes.

I live in an area with a very high military population, and as a result it seems to be a high motorcycle driving population. I saw a guy on his bike yesterday and then I started thinking about you and I wondered how much longer it will be before motorcycles are the standard mode of transportation. How expensive will gas have to be before we give up the convenience and luxury of our cars for the efficiency of a bike? Will people invent ways to safely carry babies and small children via motorcycle?
If you think about the money and innovation behind the auto industry, if they turned all that to developing technology for motorcycles we could see some pretty incredible things.
