I just made some huge modifications, entering CharmingGeek.net version 5.0 or something. Still hunting down dead links and troublesome images.

“Let Creation Sing” from Frontline DC

Checking my YouTube subscriptions today, I came across a new video from Frontline and wanted to share it with the three or four of you that visit here occasionally. I present to you Stephanie Cuomo, Total Praise, and the Frontline band performing “Let Creation Sing” at McLean Bible Church. I think this is from either December 14 or December 28. Does anybody remember? I remember being bummed about not running camera when Total Praise was singing. I want to give a special shout-out to Bonnie and Ryan of Total Priase, and Dan Cuomo of Always Rocking My Face Off.

Frontline: What is the purpose of a healthy marriage?

Filed under: general — bdparker @ 11:54 pm

Well, I’m not married. I’m not even considering it right now. I’m open to dating if you’d like to take me out, though.
Still, I saw Todd’s testimony about marriage on Frontline’s YouTube channel, and found it really encouraging. Thought it might be encouraging and even more relevant for somebody else out there, so I’m sharing.

While you’re there, go ahead and subscribe to Frontline’s channel on YouTube. They’re adding new videos all the time.

….On Google Maps

So, DC and the surrounding area has finally gotten Google Street View (AKA Stalker View). Took me a minute to figure out where I was parked the day they were roaming the streets, but here it is. Maybe I’ll find my truck later.

*Edit: Yep, I also found my truck. Hello, Aicha!

I just don’t understand cold weather

Filed under: general — bdparker @ 1:48 pm

I’ve been thinking about moving to Phoenix a lot lately. I’m tired of scraping ice and seeing my breath. It’s not even winter yet.
I came across this while looking for some information on how to survive the arctic seasons in Reston.

3) If you have a convertible, you should probably keep the top up until about 10:00am. Earlier than that, it can get a bit chilly. Top down between 10:00am and 6:00pm is normally quite enjoyable….

Do you know where I can get one of these?

Filed under: general — bdparker @ 1:59 pm

Well, I’m looking for a phone booth, and not to make a phone call. In the process I came across this. Full geek cred disclosure: I had to look up TARDIS.

Life Out of Balance

Filed under: general — bdparker @ 11:25 am

Just found out that one of my favorite movies, Koyaanisqatsi is available to watch on Google Video and on Hulu. Massively recommended for incredible videography and epic soundtrack by Phillip Glass.

“Koyaanisqatsi” is a Hopi word meaning “life out of balance.” The movie doesn’t have a plot per se, but the breathtaking photography and time-lapse video tell a story of nature and civilization.

I first saw Koyaanisqatsi at nerd camp some ten years ago. I fell asleep. Ok, I was really tired! But even with dozing off during parts of the movie, it made a real impression on me that I couldn’t shake. For years afterwards, I remembered the haunting music and striking images. Finally, just a couple of years ago, I came across a deal for Koyaanisqatsi and the sequel Powaqqatsi on DVD and ordered it. I don’t buy a lot of movies, but this is one I knew I could watch over and over. Powaqqatsi is similar to Koyaanisqatsi, but is much more human-centric. Where Koyaanisqatsi often depicts society in time-lapse video of New York city traffic from the top of a skyscraper, Powaqqatsi features many slow-motion close-ups of expressive human faces. The two are actually part of the Qatsi trillogy with Naqoyqatsi, which I haven’t yet seen. (ahem)
